Weekly Updates

Filed under: Bug Fixes, Technology — Paul @ 7:30 pm

As you may know already, the next version of iMemoryBook is in very active development. The public beta version is released an undergoing heavy scrutiny from our wonderful users. We have decided that there will be a new release every Thursday. These weekly releases will have only bug fixes until we feel the product is very solid. At that point we will begin adding many of the new features people are asking for.

Today was the first of the releases mentioned above. A great number of fixes went out. Below is a quick CHANGELOG:

  • Center and right justify now typesets correctly.
  • The forgotten color, sepia, grayscale buttons were put on the image editor.
  • Images are only allowed to zoom to reasonable sizes. They used to lie about their size. They have been taught to tell the truth.
  • As you sign in/out you are redirected back to where you were or should be.
  • You can remove and restore trashed sections, pages, and photos.
  • Added a huge number of functional and integration test to make sure these things stay fixed.
  • Lots of broken links and poorly worded texts where corrected.

As was mentioned in a previous post, there is now a ‘report a bug’ feature available. This has been very helpful. Thank you to everyone who has submitted bug reports already. Please keep up the good work.

Bug Reporter

Filed under: MemoryPress General, New Features, Bug Fixes — jeffreyharmon @ 8:39 pm

iMemoryBook 2.0 is a very complicated system. We know there are bugs in the system. Today you will notice “Report a bug” in the top right hand of your screen. If you run into bugs please report them to us so that we can fix them as promptly as possible. We would also love your suggestions on how to make iMemoryBook work better for you.

Not sure how to describe the bug you just found? Here is an example of how to report so that the Geek Squad and fix the problem faster.

In order to hunt down those pesky critters we just need an example of how to reproduce the bug.

Poor Example

I can’t get into the book my roomate Justin invited me to. It just says Application error. I am trying to get in from the dashboard area.

Great Example

  1. I was invited to the book “Justin Lakes.”
  2. I was on this page: http://beta.imemorybook.com/bookshelf
  3. I clicked on this page: http://beta.imemorybook.com/bookshelf/1991/editor
  4. The screen was blank.

In the poor example, we don’t know the url that produces the error. We don’t know what book Justin created. We can’t reproduce it. In the good example, we receive the steps that lead to the error as well as the urls to reproduce it. Thank you again for taking the time to help us squash these bugs!

  1. You can ask us a question anytime (9am to 5pm MST). Just click on the “live help” link at the top right corner of your screen and ask an iMemoryBook professional your question.
  2. You can see what others have asked or are asking. Anytime multiple iMemoryBookers are on the help page you can all learn from each others comments.
  3. You can answer other iMemoryBookers questions. When you see another iMemoryBooker ask a question and you know the answer you can join in with us to help answer the question.

Did Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes, Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner, or Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie Make a Wedding Memory Book From iMemoryBook.com?

Filed under: MemoryPress General, Wedding Books, Press Releases — jeffreyharmon @ 1:56 pm

Provo, UT, November 18, 2006 –(BusinessWire.COM)– About half of all marriages end in divorce. Couples who keep a wedding memory book might have a higher chance of succeeding. Did Tom & Katie, Ben & Jennifer, or Brad & Angelina make a wedding memory book?

No, but they should have.  Paul Allen—one of the original founders of MyFamily.com*—in talking about the importance of wedding memory books said, “These have the potential to lower the divorce rate! During hard times, couples will be able to go back and remember why they love each other.” Could it help Tom & Katie last longer than Tom and Nicole? Could Brad & Angelina’s relationship be more successful than Brad and Jennifer’s? Probably. Take for instance Derek and Wendy Thomas (Provo, UT) who are quickly approaching their first anniversary. Time is flying by, but the memories of their courtship and wedding are not. Early in their engagement, Derek and Wendy decided to make an iMemoryBook wedding memory book to record their story.

Derek wrote his perspective of how he and Wendy met and fell in love. The two were originally set up on a blind date. “I was excited,” wrote Derek, “but I didn’t really want to show it yet.” Eventually, he showed his excitement and affection for Wendy; their relationship progressed and developed.

Without reading what Derek had written, Wendy recorded the same story, but from her point of view: “I thought for most of that first evening, his name was Brian.” Fortunately, she figured out his name and their relationship began.

After recording their own stories, the couple used iMemoryBook’s invitation system to invite their friends and families to contribute memories and advice. Over the course of their engagement, they watched as over 50 people from around the nation contributed to their wedding memory book—even Derek’s friend in Brazil added a memory to the book. More than 100 pages of photos and memories were compiled in about 2 months. As a finishing touch, the couple added their engagement and wedding photos. Derek and Wendy’s wedding memory book was professionally printed shortly after their wedding.

Almost one year later, their wedding memory book still lies on the coffee table in their living room. Guests and visitors pore over the photos and memories of the proud couple while Derek and Wendy relive their story, falling in love all over again.

iMemoryBook version 2.0 was just released to the public on November 15. Neal Harmon, iMemoryBook’s founder, commented on its release: “With the Christmas and wedding season approaching fast, now is a great time to make a wedding memory book. As of November 15, starting your iMemoryBook doesn’t cost a cent. When your story is complete, you can use iMemoryBook’s press and bindery to print your professional wedding memory book.”

Note: Anniversary, funeral, personal history, and baby iMemoryBooks are also available.

Amazon’s ClickRiver vs Google Adwords, Yahoo Search Marketing , and Microsoft Adcenter

Filed under: MemoryPress General, Internet Marketing — jeffreyharmon @ 6:10 am

Unbeknownst to me, both Ben and I applied for Amazon’s new ClickRiver limited beta within minutes after its release announcement. My application must have been moments sooner than Ben’s because my application got accepted into ClickRiver’s limited beta just three days later. iMemoryBook can now advertise on Amazon.com!

After using ClickRiver, I thought that I would let you know a couple of my initial thoughts on ClickRivers pros and cons:

Pros:

  • With ClickRiver, marketers now have a 4th huge advertising median (other three: Google, Yahoo, and MSN) that will be affordable to businesses of any size.
  • REAL TIME UPDATES of your page views and clicks!
  • ClickRiver is simple and easy to use.
  • ClickRiver has a Keyword suggestion tool I haven’t seen on Google, Yahoo, or MSN: You can type in one of your competitors URL’s , for example I typed in MyFamily.com:

Then it will give you all the keywords that they have on their homepage

Then you can just select with keywords you would like to bid on.

  • We are most excited to test targeted keyword sets that are related to the millions of Amazon books relevant to iMemoryBook’s content .

Cons:

  • ClickRiver doesn’t have the ability to insert dynamic keywords.
  • ClickRiver will not advertise your product unless the search bar was used. This means that if someone is only browsing Amazon through the menu, your ad will not come up; even if they browse through what would otherwise be relevant keywords.

When it comes to usability in the pay-per-click marketing world, here are our rankings:

  1. Microsoft Adcenter
  2. Amazon ClickRiver
  3. Google Adwords
  4. Yahoo Search Marketing (after using the others, Yahoo feel like a dinosaur, I hope they release their new site to the public soon)

We will report on how they produce later.
